Dr. Edward Maurice Blackwell, Sugeon, United States Navy. He was educated at Bethel Military Academy, VA; graduated in Medical Department of the University of Maryland, 1890; practiced his profession at Riverton, VA, from 1890 to 1898. At the beginning of the Spanish-American War, he volunteered his services to the US; was appointed Assistant Surgeon, United States Navy, April 25, 1898; served throughout the war in the West Indies, on the USS Vulcan; he was promoted 1908 to Surgeon, with rank of Lieutenant Commander; was stationed later in Annapolis, MD.
