John Blair, Auditor General of the Colony.
Judge John Blair, of the United States Supreme Court.
Capt. William Bassett, the progenitor of the family in Virginia, was an officer in the Royal Army, and was later in Col. Rutherford's Regiment at Dunkirk in 1661. He came to the colony prior to 1665, for in that year he was appointed by the Assembly of Virginia "surveyor of the whole work, and to have command of the workmen therein employed in building a fort for the better defense fo the country at Jamestown." He was paid 10,000 pounds of tobacco for his services. He acquired large estates in Virginia.
