George Conway

WILL OF GEORGE CONWAY - LANCASTER CO., VA 1754:
I GEORGE CONWAY of the County of Lancaster being sick and weak of body but sound of mind and memory thanks be to God do make this my Last Will & Testament in manner following vizt I Resign my soul to God my Creator & my Body to the Earth Its original being fully Assured, that the sacrifice of Christ is a Worthy Expiation for all the sins of the Faithfull, and therefore hope that my Soul and Body Will have a Joyfull meeting at the Resurrection of the Just, by the Merits Mediation and Intercession of our compleat Redeemer the Lord Jesus Christ Amen.
I give to my Dear wife ANNE my Dwelling Plantation & all appurtenances therunto belonging During her Natural Life.
Item I give to my said Wife Six Negroes vizt Roger Winney Phillis dorcas Daniel & old Moll to my said wife andher heirs.
Item I give to my children all the Rest of my Negroes to be Equally Divided among them & their Heirs.
Item I give all my Personal Estate to be Equally divided among my wife & children & it is my Will my sons shall be of age at Eighteen years old.
Item I appoint my said Dear wife ANNE and my good friend Mr. Walter Jameson Execrs of this my Last Will & Testament. In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the 3d day of February Ano Dom 1754.GEORGE CONWAY (Seal)

Declared to be his Last Will in presence of Isaac Taylor, George Webb, Thomas Crawder Junr.

At a Court held for Lancaster County on the 21st Day of June 1754 This Will Was Proved in open Court by the Oath of Isaac Taylor & Thomas Crawder Junr Witnesse thereto and ordered to be Recorded.

In obedience to an order of the Court bearing date the 20th of January 1764 we the Subscribers met and made the Division as followeth vizt We find that GEORGE CONWAY orphan of GEORGE CONWAY decd has by the above Division Five Negroes namely Moll and a young child, Phill, Humphrey & Sall which said Five negores we have Possessed Capt John Heath with as his guardian and we do also find that the above said negores do amount to more than the above said orphans Brother WALKER CONWAY and his sister ANN CONWAY by an Equal Division Given under our hands this 18th of June, 1764.

Agreeably to an Order of lancaster Court the 17th day of December 1767 We the subscribers appraised the Estate of NANCY & WALKER orphans of GEORGE CONWAY Deceased and Divided it Accordingly this 20th December 1767.

An account of the Estate of WALKER CONWAY orphan of GEORGE CONWAY decd vizt Abraham Ben Humphrey Shadrach Betty Sall and a young child seven negroes in all. the hire of these last year amounts to 2081 lbs Tobo and 25s current money to be applied to the credit of the said orphan which pursuan to an order of the sd County Court we have possessed Mr. Edwin Conway the sd orphans Guardian with and this we make our Report this 15th day of February 1770.

Joseph W. Brent

Joseph W. Brent served in the Civil War for the Confederacy, 9th Virginia Cavalry. He died in camp July 22, 1861.


Margaret Elizabeth Chinn

In 1854 Margaret Chinn was living in Hannibal, MO. In 1880 she was single and listed with her brother, Jacob (J.C.) in Missouri.


Rawleigh Stretchley Chinn

Yardley Taylor's map of Loudoun Co., VA, made 1855, shows Rawleigh S. Chinn as owning "Mount Recovery".


Jacob Edwin Chinn

In 1854 Jacob Chinn was living in Hannibal, MO.
