James Kendall Ball, of "Bewdley", Lancaster Co., VA, served in the Confedearacy during the Civil War. Captain Ball entered the Confederate Staes Army as 2nd Lieut., 9th Va. Cav., rising to the rank of Capt. He served through the war. He inherited "Bewdley", (see Lancaster Co., Will Book 28:337-338).

Frances Ravenscroft Ball inherited "Forrest Quarter", in Lancaster Co., VA. She died, in Richmond County, VA, at the home of her son, Ovid. "Frances Ravenscroft Ball was the last member of the the family of James and Fanny Ball, of "Bewdley", which venerable residence has been in the possession of the Balls for 200 years. She was a communicant of the Protestant Episcopal Church from childhood. Her last request was that the Old Farnham Church might be repaired, for which object she left a legacy in her will" (Source: "Virginia Genealogies", Hayden, p. 130). (Obit.
