Nathaniel Cartmell was a Lieutenant in the United States Army, stationed in the Philippines. He saw active duty in the Spanish-American War, with Roosevelt at San Juan.
William Leigh Brent, a Louisiana lawyer, was commissioned by Pres. James Madison as Deputy Attorney General for the Western District of the Territory of Orleans. He was elected a Representative of Louisiana in Congress 1822, 1824 and 1826.
