I bequeath to my seventh son Joseph Buchanan the sum of eighty-four pounds, four shillings twenty-four pounds, four shillings as part thereof shall be paid to him three years after my decease and the remainder as the yearly profits of the estate will admit of.Book E, Vol. 1, Orphans Court, December 24, 1818, page 93. It was duly proven to the said Court and the Court accordingly certifies that Joseph Buchanan, late, a Private, Soldier in the Fifth U.S. Infantry, who died in the service of the United States on the 11th day of November, A.D. 1812, that said Joseph Buchanan at the time of his death left a widow, Mary, and one child named Joseph, the other child being dead. John, who is still living and that said John is the only child and legitimate heir fo the said Joseph Buchanan.
Joseph Buchanan, Upon the petition of Hannah Buchanan, state that her son Joseph Buchanan late of Halifax Township, in the county of Dauphin, who died intestate, leaving an infant son under the age of fourteen years, named John who has no guardian to take care of his person and estate therefore praying the court to appoint a guardian over the person and estate of said John Buchanan. Whereupon the court appointed John Clery guardian over the person and estate of the said John Buchanan during his minority. By the Court.
